How The Program Works
STUDENT2student is currently a 6 week summer endeavor beginning Friday, June 19th and finishing Friday, July 31st. Due to COVID-19, however, everything is subject to change. Each pair has complete autonomy and we cannot emphasize enough that each pair creates their own program from our rough guidelines.
As of now:
-
Mentors and Apprentices will be interviewed and paired at the end of May or beginning of June based on similar interests, goals, and mindsets.
-
At least once a week, pairs will meet to discuss the week ahead, plan for ongoing projects and goals, or simply spend some time together. We encourage these sessions to be fun! In addition, pairs have the ability to be in contact at all times for questions or guidance about anything.
-
The defining aspect of STUDENT2student is each pair will craft their own Big Project at the beginning of the summer. Whether it is starting their own business or winning a competition, our hope is that by the end, both Mentor and Apprentice have accomplished something that makes others say "wow!"
-
Each session will also address Small Projects which include help with scholarships, writing essays, finding college/educational resources, SAT or ACT advice and guidance, internship applications, starting or joining clubs, sports, grades and attendance, college applications and paths, the importance of education, the Mentor’s journey / experiences, building a college list, and more.
-
A special pillar of S2s is the opportunity for collaboration between pairs on Big or Small projects. In addition, our Mentors communicate so that the best experience, guidance, and opportunities are provided for everyone.
-
One last note: STUDENT2student is not meant to just be a completion based program. Rather, it should encourage the Apprentice to further their education and strive for their dreams during and far beyond this summer. As such, we hope to inspire the Apprentice to become motivated to create their own path and work toward their educational dreams even when they don't have their Mentor beside them.
Scholarships
We aim to establish a scholarship for each Apprentice to receive, however, COVID-19 has created much uncertainty. At the moment, further details are unknown.
We will also show our appreciation for our Mentors at the end of the summer for all of your hard work! In addition, we are all for helping our Mentors and if there is an incentive like a leadership position or a letter of recommendation that we could provide, we would love to hear your ideas.
